About this tool

Choosing a captain by ‘who shouts loudest’ is never fair. This random team captain picker gives every name on your list an exactly equal chance, drawing without replacement so the same person is never picked twice in one draw.

It uses the browser’s crypto.getRandomValues generator and a Fisher–Yates shuffle, the standard unbiased shuffling algorithm. Names stay on your device — nothing is uploaded — so it is safe for school teams, work pods, sports clubs and game nights alike.

Frequently asked questions

How does it stay fair?

Every name gets an equal probability. The tool shuffles the full list with an unbiased Fisher–Yates algorithm powered by crypto-strong randomness, then takes the first one (or several) as captains.

Can I pick more than one captain?

Yes. Set ‘Captains to pick’ to any number up to your roster size — useful for co-captains, vice-captains or assigning a captain to each of several teams.

Will the same person be picked twice?

Not within a single draw — selection is without replacement. Press the button again for a fresh, independent draw.

Are the names stored anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser and the list is discarded when you close the page.
