About this tool

Squad numbers can spark surprisingly heated debates. This jersey number generator takes the politics out of it: in single mode it draws one number from your chosen range, and in roster mode it assigns a unique number to every player so there are never any clashes.

Numbers are drawn with an unbiased shuffle backed by the browser’s cryptographic generator. Because roster mode samples without replacement, it will tell you if your range is too small to give everyone a different number. Whether you coach youth football, run a five-a-side side or organise a charity match, you get fair numbers in seconds.

Frequently asked questions

What number range should I use?

Football and many sports traditionally use 1–99 (or 1–11 for a starting eleven). Basketball often allows 0–99. Set the range to whatever your league permits.

Will two players get the same number?

Not in roster mode — every player receives a unique number. If you ask for more players than the range allows, the tool warns you to widen the range.

Can I include the number 0?

Yes. Set the lowest number to 0 if your sport permits it, such as basketball.

Is the assignment fair?

Yes. The tool uses an unbiased Fisher–Yates shuffle with crypto-strong randomness, so every valid arrangement is equally likely.
